The Wetting (2026)
Single-channel video, 15 mins
Exhibited at FLUX, Sydney Film Festival 2026
The Wetting spiders out from Richard Miles’s 1965 novel That Cold Day in the Park. In Miles’s text, a spinster notices a young blonde man sitting in the rain in a nearby park and invites him back to her park-side Vancouver apartment. In 1969, Robert Altman made a film adaptation with a screenplay by Gillian Freeman and the formidable Sandy Dennis bringing all her repressed intensity to the role of the spinster. In 1991, Bruce LaBruce made a skinhead art porn version called, No Skin Off My Ass.
Like the novel and both previous film adaptations, The Wetting moves between two locations: a public park and an apartment. In this version, the Spinster's desire to control the Blond deepens, but when the Blond falls ill a doctor is called and tensions escalate.
